Get out of the way Bernie, Joe, Elizabeth and Kamala. Democrats want former first lady Michelle Obama as their 2020 nominee.
According to a new Zogby Analytics survey provided to Secrets, Obama is at the top of the list of Democratic choices with 22 percent support, a huge sign of support for somebody who has never run for office.
Michelle Obama is followed by former Vice President Joe Biden at 19 percent and independent Sen. Bernie Sanders at 18 percent.
The rest, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Clinton fundraiser and Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe don’t break single digits.
“Democratic primary voters want Michelle Obama to run!” said the survey analysis.
Among the Democratic base, Obama does well, either ranking first or second with women, millennials and minorities.
She is first among women, receiving 25 percent to 21 percent for Sanders and 17 percent for Biden.
Sanders leads with younger voters but Obama wins 28 percent for a solid second.
She is also tops among Hispanics at 26 percent, African Americans at 26 percent.
The survey concludes this way: “Although Michelle Obama is extremely popular with the American people, there has been no indication she will run in 2020. The numbers here do show friction within the party, but Obama is a nice name to have on the back burner. It’s too early in the process to select a nominee, and one fifth of Democratic voters are still undecided. But anything can happen in the next three years, and Michelle Obama as the prospective nominee elicits the most excitement on the left.”
