Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin Creates “Ambassador for Unborn Children” Position to Protect Babies

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin confirmed his commitment to protecting unborn babies from abortion Wednesday when he created a new “ambassador for unborn children” position in his administration.

In an executive order, the new governor added the pro-life ambassador role to the tasks of his Chief Diversity, Opportunity & Inclusion Officer, The Post Millennial reports.

The diversity officer will work to promote “ideas, policies and practices to eliminate disparities in pre-natal care, and be an ambassador for unborn children,” according to the order. Additionally, the diversity officer will “promote free speech and civil discourse in civic life, including viewpoint diversity in higher education in coordination with the Secretary of Education.”

According to the governor’s office, Youngkin revised the position to create “a stronger and more focused role on promoting ideas, policies and economic opportunities for disadvantaged Virginians,” including unborn babies and people with disabilities.

Soon after the order was published, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia bashed the Republican governor for prioritizing the rights of unborn babies.

“Virginia now has a DEI officer encouraged to spout and defend anti-abortion legislation, some of the least inclusive and equitable policy on the books,” the pro-abortion group responded on Twitter.

Youngkin’s predecessor, Gov. Ralph Northam, was a favorite of Planned Parenthood, advocating for abortion on demand and even defending infanticide.

Northam created the diversity officer position in 2019 after he was accused of racism when a yearbook photo appeared to show him in either blackface or a KKK robe, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Now, Youngkin is using the position to advocate for the most disadvantaged population of all: unborn babies. He has been filling his administration with pro-life leaders, too, including former Heritage Foundation president Kay C. James as secretary of the commonwealth.

On Wednesday, he appointed Angela Sailor to fill the diversity officer position. Sailor previously worked for the Heritage Foundation, a conservative pro-life organization, and for the White House under President George W. Bush.

The pro-life ambassador role is unique but not unheard of. When South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem took office, she also created a new unborn child advocate role in her administration to work on ways to protect unborn babies in her state.
