Officer Shot In Standoff Now Breathing On His Own

ORLANDO, Fla. —

Orlando police released new details from the deadly standoff and hostage situation from nearly two weeks ago.

Four children were killed and an officer was shot and critically wounded.

Along with some documents, there are two recordings that really stand out.

One is from the children’s mother and one is from the sister of the gunman.

Surveillance video shows the mother at a gas station, calling for help.

She told police that Gary Lindsey Jr. beat her and was in her apartment with her four children.

Police eventually found an an assault-type rifle and several magazines inside that apartment after the standoff ended.

The first calls about gunshots came in around 1 a.m. last Monday, along with the first call from the children’s mother.

Officer Kevin Valencia was shot and remains in critical condition, though he is off a ventilator and is breathing on his own.

By 11:05 p.m. on June 11, SWAT team members had gone in and found the bodies of Lindsey and all four children.
