SAN ANTONIO —
A man attacking Walmart shoppers and employees is recovering after being shot by police Saturday night.
Officers were called to the Walmart located in the 8500 block of Jones Maltsberger Road for reports of an assault in progress. Police said multiple witnesses claimed a man in black clothing was assaulting employees and customers with a club and a bat. The suspect tried leaving, but was followed by employees.
Officers followed the suspect toward a drainage ditch. That’s when the suspect showed a knife and a metal baton and started going toward the officer. The officer attempted to use his taser, but it failed. The officer received a shock as he was standing in water. As the suspect continued toward the officer, the officer pulled out his gun and shot the suspect three times.
The suspect, only identified as a white male, was transported to the hospital in critical condition. He’s been charged with aggravated assault against public servant and aggravated assault.
The officer who shot him as been placed on administrative duty pending further investigation.
