The 11th annual BackPack Extra Mile event, held Saturday, April 28, at Lincoln East High School, was celebrated under blue skies and with more than 700 smiles in attendance. The Walk is the primary fundraising event benefiting the Child Hunger Programs in Lincoln Public Schools (LPS).
In addition to the funds raised by students, families and community supporters, including a large gift from Rhonda Seacrest, six schools earned special recognition as Garner Challenge Winners for their fundraising efforts, thanks to a $20,000 sponsorship from Garner Industries.
Each month, approximately 3,967 LPS students at 42 schools receive food support through the Food Bank’s Child Hunger Programs, including the BackPack Program and Food Markets. The LPS Emergency Pantry averages 143 family visits per month.
