Black Pro-Life Democrat: Abortion Is ‘Genocide’

At least one black pro-life Democrat has called out abortion for how it has historically been promoted, at times, to eugenically eliminate minority communities.

Speaking with NBC, Louisiana state Rep. Katrina Jackson (D-LA) said she supported her state’s “heartbeat bill,” which was signed into law by a pro-life Democratic governor, because abortion is a “modern-day genocide.”

“I think it mitigates our race’s voting power, it hurts our race’s power in the census. I really consider it to be modern-day genocide,” said Jackson.

According to LifeSiteNews, Jackson has supported a range of pro-life initiatives in the state of Lousiana, including the Love Life Amendment — “a bill that would put a referendum on the 2020 ballot in Louisiana to amend the state constitution to say there is no constitutional right to abortion.” Her pro-life activism has even received scorn from leftist outlets like VICE News, who referred to her as a “perfect message unicorn” for pro-lifers.

“Even VICE had to acknowledge Jackson is far from the only Black female Democrat who is pro-life in Louisiana,” reports LifeSiteNews. “Jackson’s description of abortion as Black genocide aligns her with several other Black women who have opposed the legalization of elective abortion, warning that it could be used to target the Black community.”

Indeed, the pro-life movement has seen scores of black community leaders speaking out against the horrors of abortion. In a recent op-ed for LifeNews, black pastor Nathaniel Thomas railed against abortion for having killed 19 million black babies since Roe v. Wade in 1973:

The fact of the matter is that over 61 million babies have been aborted since Roe v. Wade in 1973. Over 19 million of those babies were African-American.

The left loves to play identity politics when it suits their agenda, but the uncomfortable facts on abortion cut against their narrative: While blacks only make up 13% of the population, they account for over one-third of all abortions in the U.S.

Of all the people talking about abortion, I want to hear from the church. Where does the body of Christ stand on these new abortion laws sweeping the nation? In particular, I want to hear from the black church.

Throughout our nation’s history, and through all our struggles to become a more perfect union, the church has led the charge as a voice for morality and righteousness. From the abolitionists who fought to end slavery to the suffragists who fought to give women equal access to the ballot box, the church historically has been the heartbeat of justice.

Other black female state representatives, such as June Franklin (D-IA), have spoken out about abortion historically being used to target black Americans. “For Blacks and the poor who want abortions and can’t afford one … is the phoniest and most preposterous argument of all.” she said. “Because I represent the inner-city where the majority of Blacks and poor live and I challenge anyone here to show me a waiting line of either Blacks or poor whites who are wanting an abortion.”

Black Democrats such as Spike Lee, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Jordan Peele have vowed to boycott states like Georgia and Alabama if those states’ recently enacted pro-life laws remain in effect.
