Joe Biden keeps trying to win votes by talking about his Catholic faith while quietly adopting positions that directly oppose it.
Among them, the pro-abortion Democrat presidential candidate supports taxpayer-funded abortion on demand and wants to force a Catholic nuns charity to pay for contraception that may cause abortions in their employee health plans.
On Sunday, the Democratic National Convention released a video on Twitter showing Biden praising a group of nuns and meeting with the pope while he talked about his values, The Federalist reports.
“This is the kind of moral conviction we need in the president of the United States,” the DNC wrote.
In the video, Biden described his meeting with a group of nuns at St. Peter’s Basilica. He said the sisters’ ministry “epitomize[s] everything … about generosity to other people, about reaching out, about making it a point to understand that we are our brother’s keeper.”
In between clips of Biden praying, talking with the nuns and meeting the pope, he talked about the importance of his Catholic upbringing.
“That’s what, in my experience, being raised as a Catholic and being educated by the nuns, that’s what those lovely women I’m talking to symbolize to me,” he said in the video.
But Biden does not live out the faith that he claims to practice.
Earlier this summer, abortion activists were livid when the U.S. Supreme Court protected the Little Sisters of the Poor, a Catholic nuns charity that serves the poor and elderly, from having to fund all forms of contraception, including types that cause abortions, in their employee health plans. Biden responded by reassuring them that, if elected, he will force the Catholic nuns to fund abortions and contraception.

“As disappointing as the Supreme Court’s ruling is, there is a clear path to fixing it: electing a new president who will end Donald Trump’s ceaseless attempts to gut every aspect of the Affordable Care Act. If I am elected, I will restore the Obama-Biden policy that existed before the Hobby Lobby ruling,” Biden responded.
The Hobby Lobby ruling was similar to that involving the Little Sisters. Both involved an Obamacare mandate that forces employers to cover all forms of contraception, including types that cause abortions, in their employee health plans. Hobby Lobby, a Christian-owned business that objected to providing only certain types of contraception that may cause abortions, won relief at the Supreme Court in 2014.
Biden’s positions on religious freedom and abortion are troubling many voters, especially Christians. His pro-abortion politics prompted a Catholic priest to deny him communion last year, and Catholic and pro-life leaders have been calling out the hypocrisy of his claims of faith.
Biden has shown a strong willingness to bow to the billion-dollar abortion industry’s radical demands. Last year, he announced that he no longer supports the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer-funded abortions. Popular among Americans, the amendment has saved more than 2.4 million unborn babies from abortions, according to research by Charlotte Lozier Institute.
Biden supports the killing of unborn babies in abortions in direct opposition to his faith. And unlike past Democrats, Biden does not talk about wanting to reduce abortions or make them rare. In April, he went so far as to call the aborting of unborn babies an “essential medical service” during the coronavirus pandemic.
In March, he said one of his first acts as president would be to restore funding to Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion chain in America.
Biden also said he is committed to “the constitutional right to an abortion” and to reversing “the Trump administration and states’ all-out assault on women’s right to choose.” He promised to “work to codify Roe v. Wade.” The infamous U.S. Supreme Court decision made the United States one of only seven countries in the world that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Most voters, especially evangelical Christians, strongly oppose abortion on demand and taxpayer-funded abortions. A recent AP/NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found 67% of white evangelicals support protections for unborn babies in almost all circumstances. Polls consistently find strong opposition to taxpayer-funded abortions among voters, too.
Consistently through the years, polling data has shown that the abortion issue is more motivating for pro-life voters than it is for abortion supporters. Polling among all age groups also consistently finds strong opposition to abortion without restriction up to birth and taxpayer-funded abortions — which is Biden’s position.
