What Everyone Needs to Know About the NFL Opener

The start of the 2016 NFL season is just a couple of weeks away, and football fans are getting excited to watch their favorite teams try to win the Super Bowl. For most football fans, the start of the season is the best time of the year because the games haven’t been played yet and a lot of people believe it’s their team’s turn to win it all. With week one almost here, sports betting fans are checking out NFL picks against the spread, trying to cash in on the first week’s action.

For those who don’t when the season opener is going to be, here is all the information you need to get you prepared for the first game of the season.

The 2016 NFL season will kickoff on Thursday, September 8, with a rematch of last season’s Super Bowl. The defending champion Denver Broncos will host the Carolina Panthers at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, as both teams start their campaign to return to the Super Bowl. The game is scheduled to begin at 8:30 PM. ET., and it will be televised on NBC.

Last season, Denver rode one of the best defenses in NFL history to the Super Bowl, sending off future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning into retirement with his second Super Bowl win. Now that Manning is no longer on the team, the Broncos have to figure out which quarterback gives them the best chance to win this year.

Last season, the Broncos had Brock Osweiler as their backup quarterback, and he stepped up when the team needed him. However, Osweiler was benched in favor of Manning for the playoffs, which didn’t sit well with the young signal caller. Osweiler signed with Houston in the offseason, and the Broncos signed Mark Sanchez as his replacement.

Sanchez, who has been a backup the last two seasons, has an opportunity to claim the starting job, but he hasn’t looked particularly sharp during the preseason, and it is uncertain if he will be the team’s opening day starter.

The Panthers were embarrassed in the Super Bowl and would love to get the taste of defeat out of their mouths when they get their first chance to exact revenge on the Broncos. Cam Newton, who won the MVP award last season will be trying to lead his team back to the Super Bowl, and should have a very good chance to do so because the team returns a lot of the starters from last season, and also get a few injured players back, giving them more depth.

Despite winning the Super Bowl, the Broncos are home underdogs against the Panthers because they have a serious question mark at the quarterback position. Despite the questions at the quarterback position, the Broncos still have a very good defense that will keep them in a lot of games this season and also help them win some games. However, if the Broncos decide to go with either Paxton Lynch or Trevor Siemian, two players without any experience, against the Panthers, they will be in trouble because Carolina also has a very good defense that will make life difficult for the young Denver quarterbacks.
