Stand for equality

I am writing to urge you to vote in favor of full equality for transgender people in the Commonwealth.

Massachusetts is known nationwide as a welcoming and fair-minded state — but our nondiscrimination laws don’t reflect that. Transgender people should not be denied explicit protections from discrimination in places like restaurants, public transportation, hotels, and medical offices. It’s not right, plain and simple.

Public consensus is clearly pro-equality. H.4253 has overwhelming support from hundreds of businesses, major chambers of commerce, leading law enforcement associations, top-tier colleges and universities, municipal leaders and the entire congressional delegation.

At a time when states such as North Carolina are in the news for overt discrimination against LGBTQ people, it is especially important for Massachusetts to stand up for our cherished values of equality and respect — in our communities and in our laws.

Please tell me you support equality for all people in the Commonwealth. Please vote YES on H.4253, and oppose any amendments that would undermine its promise of full equality.
