Maher argued on behalf of electoral realities, which make it virtually impossible for third-party hopefuls to carve out a victory. “There’s only two items on the menu,” Maher said.
Erstwhile Sanders supporter West countered that likely Green Party candidate Jill Stein could pick up steam in much the same way Bernie did in the primary.
“You really think Jill Stein is going to be president? Look me in the eye and tell me that.”
West looked him in the eye and said firmly, “We shall see. But it’s gonna be tough.”
West did not hold back in his criticism of Donald Trump, calling him “xenophobic” and neo-fascist, but he pointed to the underlying economic realities animating his rise and said that Clinton offered little remedy.
