ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (HawaiiNewsNow) –

More than 1,000 people gathered Sunday at the Old Town Alexandria Waterfront Park in Virginia to welcome the Hokulea as it came down the Potomac River.

U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard also welcomed the crew and enjoyed music and dance by hula halau and a Native American tribe.

“Through their travels across the globe, Hokulea and her crew have united people and nations through a mission of Malama Honua—caring for our home, our place,” Gabbard said.

The Hokulea is continuing her tour along the East Coast, where crewmembers will stay in Washington, D.C. for a few days before stopping off in New York.

Hokulea has traveled to more than 12 countries and 55 ports so far.
