Healthcare confidentiality — Senate vote!

Mental health professionals, specialists who treat addiction, advocates for survivors of domestic violence, and family planning providers all agree: confidentiality is critical to ensuring that patients can access the healthcare they need. Merely having health insurance doesn’t do a person any good if they don’t feel safe using it.

This Thursday, you’ll have a chance to support legislation that would establish mechanisms to ensure that when multiple people are on the same insurance plan, confidential health care information is not shared with anyone other than the patient against the patient’s wishes. This is critical to the health and safety of all Massachusetts residents, especially dependent spouses in abusive or coercive relationships, and young people under age 26 on their parents’ plans.

Please vote in favor of S.2138 to protect confidential healthcare.
