Rumors that the 74-year-old Vermont senator would be jumping out of a plane to arrive at a rally in Cloverdale, California, on Friday afternoon began when The Press Democrat of Santa Rosa, California reported that Sanders’ campaign was in contact with a skydiving company ahead of the rally. The report said “Skydiving outfit in contact with Bernie Sanders’ campaign for Cloverdale rally.”
The paper quoted Jimmy Halliday, the president of NorCal Skydiving, who said Sanders campaign staffers had reached out to him to discuss the senator skydiving into the event on Friday.
“I’ve been told they will run the idea by Bernie,” Halliday told the California paper. “I can’t confirm that’s the plan. I know that’s a possibility.”
